Portfolio won a five-way pitch to develop a brand and associated materials for the Economic Development & Inward Investment Department at Bolton Metro. The key requirements were to firstly, produce a distinctive logo that would work in harmony with the Bolton Metro logo and secondly, for the same logo to be flexible so that the nine subdepartments could use it whilst retaining their own distinctive style. Not a straightforward task.
Our pitch demonstrated that we understood the brief and in particular that we had experience of logos, brands, sub-brands – and the sensitivities that departments have over usage of ‘their’ own identity. Once we really started to work with the client it became clear that the entire communication materials needed an overhaul.
The logo and brand identity produced has now been in existence for two years and has been adopted by all subdepartments. The result is a consistent, distinctive and recognised style for Bolton Metro’s Economic Development & Inward Investment Department.
