Substance misuse (drugs) is a sensitive subject to deal with at the best of times. It was an issue that Oldham Drug Action Team needed to address – they took the view that information needed to be communicated in a way that young people would take notice of. They also wanted the solution to be kept, rather than just read and thrown away.
Portfolio consulted with groups of young people and discovered that in most cases they wanted something “different”, and equally were scared of parents finding information to do with drugs in their possession. So our solution was to produce a swatch type booklet that looked like a mini-disc player. The ‘booklet’ had pages about different types of drugs and where to get help. It was encapsulated to ensure that the product felt important and would be kept rather than just thrown away.
